15 Pinoys receive New Zealand ASEAN Scholars award The New Zealand Government has awarded 15 postgraduate scholarships to Filipinos under the New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars Awards, with funding from the New Zealand Aid Programme in the Philippines.
The awardees will pursue postgraduate studies (i.e. postgraduate diplomas, master's degrees and doctorates) in a wide range of areas where New Zealand has recognised expertise, including agriculture, governance and public management, environmental management, and renewable energy.

"The New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars award will provide me with a unique learning experience in the field of renewable energy resources that will be valuable in contributing to the development the energy sector in the Philippines", said Alvin Libay, an awardee and engineer at First Gen Corporation.
New Zealand Chargé d'Affaires a.i. Andy White congratulated the awardees during a reception at the New Zealand official residence on Friday evening, "The selection process is a competitive one, and it is an achievement for all of you to have been selected".
"I encourage you to make the most of your time in New Zealand, to enjoy what the country has to offer, and also to work hard so that when you return you are better able to contribute to the development of the Philippines", he added.
The New Zealand-ASEAN Scholars Awards are open to eligible candidates from the public, private and civil society sectors. This acknowledges the significant contribution of the private and civil society sectors to the country's social and economic development, but also recognises the New Zealand Aid Programme's objective of supporting the Philippine government to strengthen public service capacity.
