Typhoon Sendong: Appeal For Clothes, Food & Volunteers

December 20, 2011

The National Youth Commission is calling on the public to donate canned goods, bottled water, and usable clothes to our flood-stricken countrymen brought about by Typhoon Sendong.

NYC Chairperson Leon Flores III also stresses the need for personal hygiene products like soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, and even undergarments, "Mga simpleng bagay lang ito at hindi immediate na kailangan, pero yung hindi ka makaligo o makapagpalit ng damit man lang ay dagdag pasanin na rin sa mga kababayan nating nagsisiksikan sa mga evacuation center."

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) recently made an analysis of relief efforts and found out that women and other vulnerable groups may be underserved by the very relief efforts that are there to care for them. Culturally appropriate clothing, undergarments, and other sanitary supplies like napkins and sanitary cloths are severely lacking in relief operations.
