The Philippines Cements its Place as a Premier Birding Destination at the British International Birdwatching Fair

Since its international launch in London in 2008, the Birdwatching Philippines Campaign has gone from strength-to-strength to promote the country as one of the top birding destinations in the world.

The Philippines Department of Tourism (PDOT) London has relentlessly been implementing numerous marketing activities and projects with the media and UK bird tour operators. It has also continually executed numerous familiarization (fam) trips for wildlife writers, bird tour operators and even renowned birders from the British Members of Parliament, all of whom have hailed the country's top birding sites and splendid bird species.

This month, the Philippines can add another remarkable triumph to its Birdwatching Campaign with its successful participation in the recently concluded British International Birdwatching Fair (Birdfair) on 20-22 August.

The Birdfair, held annually at the Egleton Nature Reserve at Rutland Water, England is the first and largest fair of its kind globally. More than 25,000 visitors attend the fair annually and over 300 exhibitors display their products. Enthusiasts do not only indulge in their passion for wildlife but they also support and raise awareness for international conservation projects by attending the fair.

The Philippines' exhibit was a 24-square metre stand with an attractively designed 2-metre high back panel adorned with Philippine avian endemics. The exhibit was manned by Richard De Villa, IT Officer, Lito Mendoza, Administrative and Marketing Staff, Jean Guzman of PDOT London and Manny Guzman, Third Secretary and Vice-Consul of the Philippine Embassy. Supportive birdwatching experts namely Desmond Allen, a prominent British ornithologist, Allie Parish a proficient birdwatcher and Martin Johnson, member of the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines were also on hand during the three-day event to address technical queries from visitors.

"This event provides PDOT London an opportunity to aggressively promote the country's wildlife offerings to a massive number of birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts in attendance," states Assistant Secretary for Tourism Domingo Ramon Enerio III.

Both volumes of the "Birdwatching in the Philippines" guidebooks were a massive hit at the stand with every copy running out by the end of the event. Other giveaways comprised of the "Endemic Birds of the Philippines" postcard set, Philippines Birdwatching Map, DVDs, destination brochures, notebooks, and the ever popular Philippine "buri" hat.

"It has only been the second year the Philippines has participated at the fair, yet we see that the demand from birdwatchers is greater than ever. This is clearly evident by the rise in bird tour operators participating at the Birdfair who are already selling the Philippines in their brochures. From only a few operators who included the country in their portfolio, about 70-80% of operators now feature birdwatching tours in their itineraries," added Assistant Secretary Enerio.

Tour operators, Birdtour Asia, Rockjumper and Birdquest, who have been featuring the Philippines for many years, are joined by Naturetrek, Ornitholidays, Birdwatching Breaks and Saurs Bird Tours. Other operators like Birdfinders and Avian Adventures are already inquiring when the next birdwatching fam trip will occur so they can also jump on the bandwagon.
More independent tours are also being undertaken as an immense number of inquiries received were from avid individuals and groups all looking for local guides and handlers who could assist in the upcoming trip to the Philippines.

"Participation of the Philippines at the Birdfair must be continued to further reinforce the country's position as one of the premier birdwatching destinations in the world. The country's attendance at the Birdfair also goes a long way in highlighting the numerous endangered species of the country allowing numerous initiatives for conservation projects, research and grants to support our vital ecology," adds Assistant Secretary Enerio.

LONDON, England, Aug. 31 (PNA) -- The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO)-Mandaluyong-Bagong Henerasyon RP Memory Team is scheduled to hit Manila on Tuesday at 10:35 p.m. via Emirates Airlines after a successful campaign in the just ended 4th U.K. International Open Memory Championships at the 4th level of MWB Business Exchange, One Kingdom Street in Paddington, Central London on Friday.

Ferdinand Jose "Joy" Rojas II and Chairman Margie Juico, Representative Bernadette Herrera-Dy of Bagong Henerasyon Party-List, PBA legend Robert Jaworski, sportsman/businessman Hermie Esguerra of Herma Group of companies, Dr. Philip Ella Juico and Willy Ortiz of ACCEL.

The team has also advanced to the World Memory Championships on December 1 to 6 in Guangzhou, China.

In addition, a certificate in recognition of the furthest distance travelled (6,850 miles) to compete in this U.K. International Open Memory Championships was awarded to Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO)-Mandaluyong-Bagong Henerasyon RP Memory Team headed by team manager Aurelio "Reli" De Leon.

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO)-Mandaluyong-Bagong Henerasyon RP Memory Team is also being supported by Drs.
