The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) confirmed on Friday that the Singapore-registered tugboat ASTA, which was hijacked off Pulau Tioman, Malaysia on Feb. 6, was found beached at Loreto, Surigao del Norte Thursday night.

Lieutenant Commander Arman Balilo, PCG spokesman, said the hijacked vessel was found at the vicinity of Barangay Pamanaon, Loreto, Dinagat, Surigao del Norte.

The Singaporean registered tugboat, with 12 crew aboard, was towing an empty barge, named Callista, to Cambodia from Singapore, when hijacked by at least eight hooded men while cruising off Palau Tioman on Feb. 6.

ASTA, with Callista, departed Singapore for Cambodia at 1:30 a.m. on Feb. 5. The two boats were expected to arrive in Cambodia on Feb. 9. But the ship agent reported it lost communications with the tugboat on Feb. 6 while the tugboat was cruising off Pulau Tioman, Malaysia.  FULL STORY
