9 mayoralty, 11 vice mayoralty bets in Ilocos Sur unopposed
VIGAN CITY
Nine mayoralty and 11 vice mayoralty candidates from the different towns and cities of Ilocos Sur are unopposed this coming May 10, 2010 elections, according to the Commission on Election here.
Leading the unopposed mayors is Vigan City Mayor Eva Marie Singson–Medina, who is seeking re-election under the Bileg ti Nagkakaisa nga Ilokano political party founded by Deputy Security Adviser Luis Chavit Singson, who is himself running for governor.
The other unopposed mayors are the following: incumbent Provincial Board Member Zuriel Zaragoza, who is running for mayor of Narvacan; reelectionist Mayors Samuel Parilla (Bantay), Leonofre Geronilla (Salcedo) and Jesus Jeremy Bueno III (Santa); Benardo Sarmiento (San Juan), Nancy Tabanda (San Vicente), Teresita Valle (Sta. Cruz) and Aries Gaerlan (Sigay town).
Four of the nine unopposed mayors are reelectionists who are former mayors staging a come-back and two are new mayoralty candidates.
Leading the unopposed vice mayoralty candidates are Vigan City’s vice mayoralty bet Ryan V. Singson, one of the sons of Deputy National Security Adviser Luis Chavit Singson; and Candon City vice mayoralty candidate Alfonso D. Singson, an incumbent ex-officio Provincial Board Member who is president of Ilocos Sur Councilors' League, an elder brother of House Deputy Speaker Eric D. Singson.
The other nine unopposed vice mayoralty bets are re-electionists Floro Peredo Jr. (Bantay), Charito Zaragoza (Narvacan), Mildred Elaydo (San Esteban) and Jesus Bueno Jr. (Santa); Jose Tabanda III (San Vicente), Samson Bangaoil (Alilem), Nathaniel D. Escobar (Burgos), Leopoldo Geronilla (Salcedo) and Virgilio Valle (Sta. Cruz).
Four of the unopposed vice mayors are reelectionists, three are incumbents and last-termer mayors who agreed to slide down and now running for vice mayor; and four others are new vice mayoralty candidates.
Another exciting match to watch this coming May 10, 2010 elections is the battle between incumbent Vice Mayor and come-backing Mayor Amante Purisima III and younger brother lawyer Mark Anthony Purisima.
The latter Purisima ran for mayor in 2007 election but lost to his other brother Christian Purisima.
Christian did not seek re-election and is now running for provincial board member to replace their mother Chuchi Purisima, who is now in her third and last term of office.
Meanwhile, former Congressman and lawyer Mariano Tajon is seeking the mayoralty post in his hometown Sto. Domingo under the Liberal Party against businessman Amado T. Tadena of the ruling Lakas KAMPI–CMD party.
Tadena is brother of incumbent Sto. Domingo Mayor Floro Tadena, who agreed to slide down to vice mayor this coming election. (PNA)
