Immigration visa crackdown putting off foreign students from UK study, say universities

UK Universities CEO Nicola Dandridge warned this week that the Government’s tough immigration visa rhetoric threatens to undermine multibillion-pound market in foreign students.

Detention centres are not, as some suggest, holiday camps. The conditions experienced by detainees, which holds visa overstayers alongside convicted murders and rapists, are similar to those in prisons.

Bogus passport couple jailed

A husband and wife fraud team from West London were jailed last week for manufacturing and supplying false passports and identity documents following an investigation by the UK Border Agency (UKBA).

UK to impose work restrictions on Croatians when they join EU on 1 July 2013

When Croatia joins the European Union (EU) on 1 July 2013, transitional arrangements will be introduced to restrict Croatian nationals’ from full access to the UK labour market.

EEA National’s right of residence in the UK

Even though the UK is a member of the EEA, a non-EEA family member of a British citizen should not “generally” come to the UK using an EEA family permit. He or she will be considered under UK Immigration Rules and subject to new minimum income requirements.

Keep out EU benefit tourists says UK Prime Minister

Britain is to demand new restrictions to keep out benefit tourists under a new relationship with the European Union, even at the expense of free movement treaties. UK Prime Minister David Cameron said the Government should make it harder for European Union migrants to come to United Kingdom and claim benefits. Cameron said that only working European immigrants should be allowed into the UK, even if it means undermining the EU’s key principle of “free movement”.
