Canadian Embassy calls for applications for 4th nat'l human rights training program
(PIA) -- The Embassy of Canada and the Pinoy International Human Rights Training Program Alumni Inc. (PIHRTPA) are inviting human rights workers, educators and advocates to apply for the 4th National Human Rights Training Program (NHRTP) to be held on November 5-12, 2012 in Tagaytay City.
The NHRTP is the annual core program of PIHRTPA in the Philippines. PIHRTPA is composed of human rights educators/activists trained by Montreal-based Equitas International Centre for Human Rights Education through its annual International Human Rights Training Program (IHRTP). Equitas is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that promotion human rights through education in Canada and around the world.
Twenty human rights workers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are expected to attend, with the goal of increasing their knowledge on human rights laws and mechanisms.
The program will discuss domestic laws, legal remedies, advocacy initiatives, and share best practices to build a culture of human rights in their respective sectors, areas and communities.
Selected participants will be awarded bursaries to cover meals, accommodation and travel costs such as plane fares and/or bus fares going to and from the training venue. Transportation expenses from residence to bus terminals/airport and other miscellaneous costs shall be shouldered by the participants’ respective organizations as counterpart.
The training program will involve people who work on human rights issues through education and advocacy.
Applicants must be currently doing human rights work and have at least two years’ experience, have not been able to attend any training on international human rights instruments, have active participation in human rights education activities in their respective areas of work, be willing and committed to apply to their organization the human rights education skills that will be learned during the training, and have exhibited influence in their respective areas to make a difference.
Requirements to be submitted are: completed application form with endorsement letter from supervisor or employer, recommendation letter from any NGO or PO, and an individual plan on HRE session.
A memorandum of agreement with Pinoy IHRTP Alumni will be sent to those who will be selected for the implementation of Individual Plan
