New visa rules for overseas students ‘will cost billions’ say Universities UK
UK Universities will lose billions of pounds unless the coalition urgently abandons new immigration rules for overseas students, campuses across the country have warned.
Universities UK, which represents 134 higher education institutions, is writing to the prime minister urging him to rethink recent changes to the student visa system, the Guardian reports.
UK Universities also depend financially on these students - some charge non-EU students more than four times as much as home students.

The Canadian government will launch a new "start-up" visa to attract foreign entrepreneurs and business people to immigrate to Canada as part of a new economic strategy, the Telegraph reports this week.
"Right now, there's competition for talent, a talent war, going on. That's not healthy. Instead, there should be better planning. Both sides should be facilitating the movement of talent - if Canada lacks nurses and China has [extra] nurses, then China should facilitate nurses going to Canada."

Following recent delays the UK Border Force is recruiting an additional 70 staff at Heathrow Airport to deal with long queues and millions of UK tourists expected this summer, Immigration Minister Damian Green has told MPs. He said recruitment for new staff at Terminal 2, due to open in 2014, was being brought forward so they would be available for the post-Olympic UK traveller and student arrival period. A post-Games rush is expected when tens of thousands of overseas students arrive in the UK for the new academic year.
