UK Based Pinay Illustrates Book On Insurance Gaffes

It's not the book to read if you submitted a stupid insurance claim - illustrations by Ma Krystina Reyes

British writers Harriet Prentice and John Morgan have penned a book which is, fortunately for those written about, without their names. As claims are quite often about motor accidents, it would be assumed that a modicum of seriousness and clarity would be used by the claimants. Especially as they are hoping to get money to pay for their expensive metal-bending incidents. Not a bit of it.

The dumb claims related in this book have obviously come from the records of insurance companies and brokers, and leave the general reader wondering who gave these morons permission to drive in the first place. If there were intelligence tests for drivers, most of the anecdotes in this book would never be there.

Liberally illustrated throughout by Filipina Ma Krystina Reyes, this is a lighthearted journey through an underwiters nightmare.

'Irrespective of where you live, the question "Am I covered?" induces a feeling of unease. The reply "You're covered," evokes a sigh of relief...' So begins the book. Inside are nearly 100 cartoons, and some unique and amusing car insurance claims from both individuals and insurance companies based in the UK and abroad. There are facts, figures and surveys relating to car insurance. Questions 'covered' include: What does insurance cover?

Are you covered if your car is torpedoed by a UFO? What if your vehicle crashes while being driven by an animal? Read about the hungry elephant who tried to steal a man's lunch, and the man who candidly admitted that his claim arose because he was distracted by four women in mini-skirts. Finally, from New Zealand, a car romance that captured the hearts of two Swiss ladies.

Some of the incidents seem totally bizarre, others just are someone's idea of how attempts to place the blame elsewhere go horribly wrong - but don't complain, it gives us all a laugh in this book.

David J. Rioux, Vice President of Erie Insurance (USA) and President of International Association of Special Investigation Units (USA), after reading sizable extracts said: "...It's somewhat humorous and a little informative.  It gives a reader some insight into a claim adjuster's day for sure, and some bizarre and unusual types of claims that are made. I'm sure this was a large undertaking ....".
