The Supreme Court (SC) suspended on Monday a court sheriff for one year without pay due to his questionable acceptance of an amount from an accused in a court case without an official receipt. In a nine-page decision, the SC's Third Division imposed the penalty on Achilles Andrew Regalado, Sheriff IV of the Naga City Regional Trial Court (RTC).
Court records show that Regalado received the amount of P19,500 from a certain Domingo Peña Jr., who had a case for falsification of public documents before the Naga City RTC.
However, Regalado did not issue an official receipt as a proof that the transaction was legal.
