A former official of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said the killing of Wilfredo “Boy” Mayor was a warning to other whistleblower but likewise with would-be whistleblowers.
Archbishop emeritus Oscar Cruz said the death of the jueteng scandal witness was meant to silence other witnesses.
“They did not only murder one person but they sent the message, a very chilling message: to everybody, keep quiet or else, you’ll get it,” he said, in a Church-organized weekly forum.
