A north-bound motorcycle rider was killed Sunday morning after he overtook a double-cab pick-up truck but failed to return to his lane and instead collided head-on with an approaching fuel tanker truck along a national highway in Calo, San Jose town in Negros Oriental.
Florencio Cabugnason, 32, single, and a resident of Manjuyod town in Negros Oriental, was thrown off his Honda motorcycle to the other side of the road and was apparently dragged by the Shell tanker, which caused his instant death, said PO3 Roldan Esmajer, traffic investigation officer of the San Jose police station.
Initial police investigation showed Cabugnason suffered massive serious injuries in the head and body and broken limbs, said Esmajer. His driven motorcycle was shattered into pieces, he said.
The Shell tanker truck, with plate number T78339, which originated from Bacolod City and was bound for Dumaguete, was said to have jack-knifed upon impact with the motorcycle, crossed lanes, rammed into a lamp post by the seaside before it rolled over twice and skidded on the road, the police said.
