Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral said she would keep distributing the condoms until June 30 or until the end of her term despite calls from Catholic bishops for her to resign or for President Macapagal-Arroyo to fire her.
“I serve at the pleasure of the President,” Cabral told reporters in defending her condom distribution as part of the Department of Health’s advocacy to control the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV-AIDS.
“By July 1, the (new) president is entitled to appoint his own secretary of health,” she said after the launch of a new government hospital in Barangay (village) Narra here on Sunday. FULL STORY
