AL JAZEERA's INVESTIGATION INTO THE AMPATUAN MASSACRE HITS HARD

7 February 2010

The Qatar based television station Al Jazeera has conducted an investigation into the fallout from the Maguindanao/Ampatuan killings which left 57 murdered, 30 of them Filipino reporters.

Al Jazeera's documentary magazine program "The Listening Post" has aired the programs screened over two weeks, on the 29th January and 5th February.

Besides showing the climate of fear pervading journalism in Mindanao in general, and Maguindanao under the Ampatuan's in particular, the programs show that there are serious questions whether the Philippine government is serious about prosecuting the alleged perpetrators of the worst massacre in recent Philippine history and that which is the worst ever mass killing of journalists ever.

It also raises a serious issue which is that of the lack of international coverage of the issue by the world's media.

The first part of the investigation starts at time 14.00 minutes into the program

The second part of the investigation begins immediately
